The fear of mankind is a snare, but the one who trusts in the Lord is protected.

After hearing the king, they went on their way. And there it was—the star they had seen at its rising. It led them until it came and stopped above the place where the child was.

And this is the testimony: God has given us eternal life, and this life is in his Son.

So he assembled all the chief priests and scribes of the people and asked them where the Christ would be born.

“Come, let us settle this,” says the Lord. “Though your sins are scarlet, they will be as white as snow; though they are crimson red, they will be like wool.

He will stand and shepherd them in the strength of the Lord, in the majestic name of the Lord his God. They will live securely, for then his greatness will extend to the ends of the earth.

But Mary was treasuring up all these things in her heart and meditating on them.

After seeing them, they reported the message they were told about this child, 18 and all who heard it were amazed at what the shepherds said to them.

Suddenly there was a multitude of the heavenly host[a] with the angel, praising God and saying: Glory to God in the highest heaven, and peace on earth to people he favors!

Today in the city of David a Savior was born for you, who is the Messiah, the Lord.
