Tutor Training Classes in ESL and Basic Literacy - Stratford

Literacy Volunteers is offering volunteer tutor training classes in ESL (English as a Second Language) and Basic Literacy at the Stratford Library Mondays September 17, 24, October 1, 8, and 15 from 6 to 8 p.m. nightly. Volunteer tutors will learn techniques to assist Basic Literacy and ESL students with dialogue, listening comprehension, oral fluency, phonics, reading comprehension and writing skills No previous teaching experience required! All prospective tutors will be interviewed in advance. For more information, call The Literacy office between the hours of 9 a.m. and 2 p.m. at 203-878-4800 or stop by the Stratford Library Satellite Office on Mondays or Wednesdays from 10 a.m. to 12 noon, or Milford Library Wednesdays 3 to 5 p.m. Additionally, if you are interested in working with students preparing for their GED (General Equivalency Diploma) examination, or prefer to help adult students with basic literary skills, call the Center's office to schedule your orientation meeting.

Homeless Fundraising Banquet with Roddy Chong

Renowned violinist and inspirational speaker Roddy Chong will entertain guests with his high-energy performance and moving message at Bridgeport Rescue Mission's 2018 Restore Hope 25th Anniversary Celebration Thursday, October 4th. The annual event benefits the Mission's programs and services for those in coastal Fairfield County who are homeless, seeking recovery from addiction, and struggling with poverty.More than 300 people are expected to attend the event. Registration begins at 6:30 p.m., with the dinner and presentation at 7 p.m. Event sponsorship opportunities are available at levels ranging from $2,500 to $25,000.
